DESPITE beating his side 2-0 at the weekend, Wolves manager Mick McCarthy believes that Gary Johnson's team have the potential to get promotion from the Championship.

McCarthy's Wolves lead the Championship, while City sit in sixth place after their second defeat in three games. Johnson's men take on Plymouth Argyle at Ashton Gate tomorrow while Wolves travel to Reading whose home form has been as impressive as the the midlands side.

Goals from Michael Kightly and Sylvain Ebanks-Blake were enough to give Wolves the three points on Saturday and although his side looked fairly comfortable, McCarthy spoke this morning about his respect for City boss Gary Johnson. He told teamtalk.com: "I did my pro-license with Gary Johnson who's very bright and forward-thinking about the game."

McCarthy admitted that his team had been better on the day but said he 'wouldn't be surpised' if Bristol City repeated their heroics of last year and made it into the playoffs,

"His teams are good footballing teams so anyone playing them knows it will be a tough match.

"Bristol City set-up quite similar to us - 4-4-2 with two out and out wingers and Marvin Elliott is now back for them which makes a big difference with his power and strength in the middle.

"In the two centre forwards they've got Dele Adebola who's proved to be a really good signing and Nicky Maynard, who's got the potential to be a really good player.

"I can see them doing well."
