BRISTOL City manager Gary Johnson is pleased to report that Jamie McCombe's injury was not as serious as first feared.

The defender was taken off in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, but the club confirmed that there was no fracture, a relief to the City manager who described McCombe as 'key' to his side's success,

"Jamie was a big miss, especially when you want to get a goal back, but we felt it better to take him off. He got a whack on the cheekbone, and had pins and needles in his teeth, which obviously concerned the medical team."

"Thankfully it is the other side of his face [than the cheekbone he fractured] and, fingers crossed, it will be nothing like the last injury, " the City boss told the official website in his post-match notes.

This morning Nick Dawes, City physio gave supporters an update on the defender's status,

"Jamie should return to training early this week, although we'll speak to a specialist just to make sure.

Johnson commented,

"We were certainly worried at the time given what happened to Jamie earlier in the season. We don't know for certain when he'll be back yet but we'll have to wait and see.

City are also currently monitoring injuries to Louis Carey, who will be part of the reserve squad on Tuesday and Jamie McAllister, who will be on international duty with Scotland this week.
