Millen eyes Bristol City recruits

Bristol City manager Keith Millen hopes to bring in at least two new players in the January transfer window to boost the club's battle against relegation."There's two or three on the go, but I can't promise anything," Millen told BBC Radio Bristol. "Prices are inflated and the loan market's difficult.

"It's hard to get players in January as teams don't want to help."

But Wales international Sam Vokes has returned to Wolves after an injury-hit loan spell at Ashton Gate.

The forward played just 13 minutes for City in the opening-day defeat at home to Millwall.

While Millen waits to see who he can bring in, his City side start the new year still on the fringes of the relegation zone in 19th.

I have been impressed with Millen - he's not frightened to make the big decisions and I expect there will be considerable player movement when the transfer window opens

They have picked up just one point from a possible nine, thanks to Brett Pitman's last-minute penalty equaliser against Crystal Palace.

Tuesday's 1-1 draw also featured a first start of the season for Lewin Nyatanga in a makeshift defence featuring Khalifa Cisse at centre-back, with Jamel Campbell-Ryce filling in at right-back.

With captain Louis Carey only just returning to training and fellow defenders Jamie McAllister, Liam Fontaine and Christian Riberio all out, Nyatanga's return is timely as Millen struggles with "skeleton numbers" at the back.

Wales international Nyatanga came on in the 4-1 Boxing Day defeat at Reading after a tough first half of a campaign hit by an injury in the final pre-season outing, which also included a loan spell at Peterborough in November.

"The season hasn't gone how I'd planned with getting injured and going out on loan, but these things happen," the 22-year-old told BBC Radio Bristol.

Fit-again defender Lewin Nyatanga has 33 Wales caps to his name"Not playing for so long is something I've not been through before, but you just have to accept it and keep working hard.

"Keith Millen's been great. In fairness, people were playing well and, if they're doing that, you've got to keep the same team. But I had to make sure that I was ready if the chance came."

Next up are two matches in the space of three days against the Championship's top two, Cardiff at home on New Year's Day and table-topping QPR away two days later.

"It's a good little challenge and, if we go into them with a positive outlook anything can happen," added Nyatanga.
