JOHN Akinde may not be able to make his debut for the Bristol City first team for a couple of weeks but a run-out in the reserve team for the striker impressed assistant manager Keith Millen.

The former Ebbsfleet striker who finalised a deal to join City on Monday was drafted into the reserve team's squad for the game with Southampton in the Combination Cup.

Akinde began the game on the bench with Lee Trundle and Steve Brooker starting up front but came on for Nick Dunn to play 35 minutes for the club. City's reserve team also features Ivan Sproule, Scott Murray, Chris Weale and David Noble, all of which played the full 90 minutes.

Keith Millen was very happy that his side were able to run out 4-1 winners and said: "It was a really good second half performance and we have scored some great goals.

"A lot of professionals got a good run out, the youngsters defended really well and John played well when he came on."
