Murray will spend one month with Cheltenham, making his debut against Bristol Rovers tonight.
IN the preperation for tonight's game against Bristol City, Gary Johnson spent a portion of his pre-match press conference talking about a player who will not be featuring in his squad tonight.

Yesterday the City manager made the decision to allow Scott Murray to join Cheltenham on loan, a move which the Scottish winger admitted he was 'surprised' about.

Today Johnson hit back at rumours that the midfielder is not part of his plans claiming that the move is good for both parties and that the player is still very much a vital member of the City squad.

He said of the 34-year-old,

"We wouldn't have given Scott a new contract if we thought it was the end for him.

"We love him and the way he plays"

Murray recently return from a wrist injury and scored three goals in two games for the reserves, including a sensational strike from the half-way line in a 6-0 victory over Bournmouth last week. Many expected him to be recalled to the City first team squad but Johnson said he felt that the winger needed 'Championship legs',

"He showed in the reserves the other day he's still got that character and the ability to score goals, but the Championship is a bit different to the reserve league.

"We get the option to recall him next month and if he's challenging when he comes back then he'll be ready.

"It's a positive for everyone all around. I've already said to Scotty, I want him at this football club for as long as I am here."
