Norwich - Derby match investigated for match fixing

BRISTOL City's opponents this weekend Norwich appear to be at the centre of a match fixing probe relating to their last league outing.

On Monday the football association confirmed it has been handed evidence alleging irregular better patterns during a football league game in the Championship but refused to confirm which one.

This morning the association has announced that the match-fixing allergations relate to the game between the Canaries and Rams on the 4th October.

The issue is believed to be so serious that the betting patterns will be part of a Parlaimentary discussion in the House of Commons which takes place today.

The BBC reports that Norman Lamb, MP for North Norfolk, will ask sport secretary Andy Burnham if he has heard from the FA on the matter.

He told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I have to stress this is an allegation.

When anything like this enters our game the whole thing's destroyed because you lose trust. It's important the FA investigates this as a matter of extreme urgency."

Reports of the case were first circulated by the Sunday telegraphy who confirmed that unusual betting during a game in the Championship had been noticed but did not specify which match,

"The Sunday Telegraph didn't mention the game but it's since emerged that the game did involve Norwich City and Derby County - a game I was at - but I have to stress this is an allegation," said Lamb.

"What surprised me is what I heard last night, that as of yesterday the FA had not approached Norwich City or Derby," the MP continued.

The investigation is not believed to hinder in any way Norwich's preparations for their game with City on Saturday.
