Pete Johnson has resigned as Bristol City chief scout to join his brother Gary, the manager at Peterborough.City chief executive Colin Sexstone told the club's website: "Pete has done a good job for us over the years and we are very sorry to see him go.
"Obviously there are very close family ties involved and we wish him well for the future."
City have yet to confirm that defender Jamie McCombe is to sign for Huddersfield Town.
McCombe is rumoured to have had a medical at the League One club before signing a two-year deal.
On the issue of Johnson's departure, Sexstone added: "Steve Coppell [City manager] is now looking at the options available and who is appropriate to take on this role.
"It may be an internal appointment, it may need an external appointment. It's too early to say."
City parted company with Gary Johnson in March, with Coppell taking over at the end of the last Championship campaign.
