"We made a couple of changes and it enabled us to keep the ball better," he said.

"I thought every member of the team, including the substitutes, affected the game.

"That's what they have to do if we are to remain a force at this level. It has been a great start for us, but we need to keep things going.

"We like to play passing football but we have to defend properly, too, and this was one of our best performances so far.

"I brought in David Noble to put a foot on the ball and he has responded with a superb performance, including a very important goal.

"There are only 10 games gone but we have shown we can live with the best in this division. I can assure everyone that Sheffield United will finish a lot higher than their current position."

"A number of our players are not as good as I thought they were when I took the job, and we have a lot of work to do.

"I'll be hoping to make a couple of loan signings soon, but we also need to get on the training ground and improve the players already here.

"I didn't expect to be in such a lowly position after 10 games but we are where we deserve to be.

"It's very disappointing for our supporters, but I don't feel under pressure myself because the board understand I need time to make a difference."
