Robins show early season promise

Steve Coppell`s first home game in charge of Bristol City ended in a 2-0 win over Premier League newcomers Blackpool. The day started on a high with the unveiling of new signing David James and he was paraded before the City supporters on the pitch prior to kick-off. And it got better for the vast majority of those inside Ashton Gate as Coppell`s side netted twice in three minutes midway through the first half. Ivan Sproule latched on to a throughball from David Clarkson before neatly sliding his shot underneath the advancing Paul Rachubka after 21 minutes. Sproule`s long ball over the top then caused confusion in the Blackpool defence and Clarkson capitalised on the hesitation between Rachubka and Ian Evatt to roll the ball into the net from 12 yards out. Blackpool were disappointing and did not even register a shot on target.
