SOUTHAMPTON boss Jan Poortvliet has admitted frustration at his side's poor start to the campaign - particularly at home.

The Saints host Bristol City this weekend with the visitors looking to bounce back from a heavy defeat against Reading and the home side hoping to pull themselves further away from trouble.

Dutch manager Poortvliet hopes that his sides can begin to pick up points at home, understanding that this will be the key to them staying in the Championship this season.

Southampton have claimed 10 points away from home this campaign but poor peformances at St Mary's have left them with just six points from seven games, including just one win.

If his side are to get themselves out of trouble sooner rather than later then Poortvliet understands that points at home are key,

"It's disappointing when you play seven home games and only have six points," he told the Southampton Daily Echo,

"It should be at least 15 points, or something like that."
