WOLVES defender Jason Shackell is hoping to be involved in a victory over Bristol City this weekend.

The deadline day signing ended his last appearance for the club in goal after Wayne Hennessey was dismissed for a foul on Neil Mellor. McCarthy brought the former Norwich man to the club to add some stability to his backline but Shackell has yet to break into the first team since his move. He hopes that impressive performances in training and his commitment to the cause may help him earn a starting place against Bristol City this weekend,

"I've got no right to say I should be in the team because the boys have done fantastically well since I arrived," says Jason, who will be 25 on Saturday.

"They were unbeaten when I signed and the games I have seen they have been fantastic so fair play to them and long may it continue."

The defender also told the official website that this Wolves team are a strong unit and should be taken seriously as they look to continue their unbeaten start this weekend: "It looks like a great team to be involved in.

"Going forward they are creating things left, right and centre and keeping the back door shut as well.

"There have been a couple of fantastic team performances which I've watched from the bench.

"It's such a good attacking team to watch that it would be nice to get involved in it."

Looking ahead to this weekend's game he said: "Beating Preston was another great win for the boys though and let's hope we can get another one against Bristol City."
