The Defence of Hull

The fussy referee on Saturday saw fit to book Jamie Smith on Saturday and it was his fifth of the season. He will therefore miss the game at Hull City.

How will Tinnion reorganise the defence having played Smith and Bell as wing backs in a 3-5-2 at Tranmere? Coles and Butler with Ireland or Fortune would leave the option of starting Amankwah as right wing back. Fortune or Coles could also play there.

The attacking formation used at Hartlepool saw City come unstuck, resorting to long balls out of defence as the midfield were pulled back on defensive duty. Maybe the tactics at Tranmere, although they invited a lot of pressure were the right ones?
