'Weale continues to impress me'

CITY boss Gary Johnson has backed his goalkeeper Chris Weale to go on and show why he rates him so highly - starting this weekend against Wolves.

Weale, who was expected to deputise for last year's player of the season Adriano Basso on Saturday, has played as many games this campaign as the first choice goalkeeper continues to struggle with injury.

As a product of the Yeovil youth academy, the City manager knows exactly the talent his stopper posesses and revealed he had spurned oppertunities to allow him to leave because of the potential he feels Weale posesses.

Despite making just nine starts as a City player, Chris signed a new one-year deal in the summer and Johnson believes he has the quality to shut the league leaders out this weekend,

"I think Chris is showing the form that made him a regular at Yeovil," Johnson told the Bristol Evening Post.

"He's had his problems with injury and he's had to be very patient watching from the bench while Basso has done so well. But he's fully fit now and he's back to his very best. We've seen that in training and we've seen it in the matches he's played this season."
