The Australian midfielder was an influential performer in the 1-0 victory at Ashton Gate and capped his display with a fine goal.
Johnson said: "Luke could have dropped his head over the misfortune of hitting the woodwork, but remained bright enough to capitalise on the rebound.
"We've been working on one-twos off the post in training.
"I'm trying to get across the mentality to stay strong when things go against you and Luke demonstrated it perfectly with his goal."
