He is likely to act as cover for Marc Tierney, who is undergoing a scan to see if he has dislocated a shoulder.
Meanwhile fellow full-back Ben Coker has joined Chelmsford for a one-month loan spell after joining the U's from Bury Town in pre-season.
Boss John Ward told BBC Essex: "Ben's a developing player and I think what we've got here at the moment is a little bit too much for him.
"It's a chance for him to play after being out injured but he won't be allowed to play in the FA Cup for Chelmsford.
"We've got him on a two-year contract. I think very highly of Ben - I think he's going to be a really good footballer."
