Wilson reveals first-team motivation

DEFENDER James Wilson has spoken today about his hopes to add to his first appearance for the Bristol City first team last weekend.

The 18-year-old was a substitute in City's 1-0 win at Southampton and although he was not included as part of the squad which faced Nottingham Forest this weekend, the Wales U-21 defender is confident of his chances of breaking into the Robins squad on a consistent basis.

With club captain Louis Carey, Scotland defender Andy Webster and experienced centre backs Liam Fontaine and Jamie McCombe all standing between him and a place in the start XI, Wilson's chances of starting games will be fairly limited, but after returning from a loan spell at Brentford two weeks ago, Wilson is inspired by the example of Christian Ribero, a player who he says 'made him believe' that he had the chance to break into the side,

"That was an important moment for me," said Wilson who joined the club ten years ago, "It showed that young players had a chance to come through and progress at this club."

Despite Ribero currently nursing a cruciate knee ligament injury he picked up on debut earlier this season in the Carling Cup, Wilson says that his 'good friend' Ribero will 'be part of the team sooner rather than later' and hoped that more young players come through. He told the Bristol Evening Post,

It proved to all of us that this manager was willing to play academy lads if he thought they were good enough."
