Bristol City 2 Blackpool 4

Blackpool ended their scoring drought in style but had to take the lead three times at Bristol City before going on to secure 4-2 victory.

Twice Enoch Showunmi dragged bewildered City back into the game - once from the penalty spot - but they could easily have been beaten by five or six before trudging off to booing from their fans.

Rated by the bookies as second favourites behind Forest to win promotion City have a theory why the season so far resembles a flight in a lead balloon.

Because of an international balloon fiesta a mile from their ground at Ashton Gate they had to reschedule a home game. It meant two quick journeys to Yorkshire where they lost 1-0 to both Bradford and Huddersfield.

But this defeat could in no way be put down to two difficult fixtures.

Simon Grayson's Blackpool were in far worse trouble, pointless as well as goalless but they lifted their game while City looked in vain for lift-off.

Manager Gary Johnson sent them out without wingers in a badly balanced side which saw central defender Cole Skuse moved to the right of midfield so that the manager's son Lee could make his home debut after being signed from Hearts.

He did enough to show that his composure and ability on the ball will be an asset but Skuse had a wretched afternoon, beaten both for pace and ideas by Blackpool's Adrian Forbes.

Neither saw out the game, Skuse was taken off at the interval while Forbes was replaced early in the second half with a slight groin strain.

Forbes' departure brought no easing of pressure on City as Keigan Parker, who came on in his place, put the Seasiders back on top with a goal and then had an assist for the fourth which was knocked in by fellow sub Danny Graham.

It all began so well for the visitors when a head flick by Forbes opened the way for the first strike on 27 minutes, Scott Vernon delivering a right drive into the bottom left hand corner.

Only Brazilian Adriano Basso, after a shaky start, kept his side in with a chance by pulling off four great stops in the opening half.

They went in with some hope thanks to a strike by ex Luton hitman, Showunmi, who followed up later on with a penalty which sent Rhys Evans the wrong way.
