Bristol City battled back from a two-goal deficit to earn a share of the spoils thanks to Luke Wilkshire's late effort in a 3-3 draw against Huddersfield at Ashton Gate.

The visitors were 3-1 ahead with only half an hour left but they were denied a third away win when Leroy Lita converted a penalty before Wilkshire denied them with an equaliser.

The game started well for City when they went in front on nine minutes after Scott Murray powered in a header and then suffered the loss of John Holdsworth with a shoulder injury.

Huddersfield handed the hosts a warning when Danny Schofield hit the post from three yards and they went one better to move in front with two goals inside an eight-minute spell.

They levelled when Pawel Abbott cut through to the by-line before turning the ball back to Danny Schofield who made up for his miss with an accurate right foot shot past Steve Phillips.

Phillips was then beaten for a second time by a similar finish the scorer but this time Abbott finished off a good move started by substitute Nat Brown.

Huddersfield went 3-1 ahead up with half an hour to go when Abbott's long run and shot was parried by Phillips and Chris Brandon had an easy tap in from close range.

City were handed a lifeline when Lita was fouled in the Terriers area and the referee handed them their first league penalty for 17 months and the teenager picked himself up to score his ninth of the current campaign.

The hosts grabbed their point in the 89th minute when Aussie midfielder Wilkshire's shot deflected off David Mirfin to leave keeper Ian Gray stranded and make the score 3-3.
