The battle of the League One hotshots ended with a clear win for City's Leroy Lita.
While nothing quite fell for Dons ace Izale McLeod his 19-year-old rival hit two goals in the first 25 minutes. They took his tally for the season to 15, four of them in the space of five days against the Dons.
In the week the Dons packed their side with youngsters and went out of the LDV cup 2-1. For their return visit they had their regulars back, seven changes in all, but the game was over for them inside half an hour.
The pace of Scott Murray again carried the City man past his marker down the right flank and his crosses set things up for Lita.
For the first after four minutes he slid in at the far post. His second goal came with a header after Dons keeper Scott Bevan had parried Stephen Brooker's header onto the bar.
Brooker was not denied for long. Inside another five minutes he was stretching to a ball from the industrious Mickey Bell with a header into the top of the net.
Bevan completely misjudged the flight and at half-time stayed out on the pitch to be coached in the art of the going up for the ball.
While Lita, already bringing in the scouts in his first season as a regular had plenty to celebrate. McLeod, two months his senior, was left to gesticulate to the bench.
He had few chances to add to his ten goals. Soon after Lita's first goal his partner Wade Small set him up for a run at goal. With defenders closing McLeod shot early and was a yard off target.
He was then denied a goal by a spectacular Steve Phillips save and his luck stayed in decline with a second half booking for a foul - that's eight yellows and a red this season.
A selfish shot by Murray when he should have passed to the unmarked Lita denied the youngster a hat-trick. That looked momentarily expensive when Small pulled back a goal for the Dons but around the hour Luke Wilkshire gave City back their three goal lead with a volley from the left side of goal.
