Blackpool 1 CITY 1

Last updated : 11 December 2004 By Ciderjar
Richie Wellens (formerly a City target) breaks into the box and is well tackled by Tony Dinning (formerly on loan at Blackpool). Lots of early pressure by Blackpool who won 4-0 in the week. A Wilkshire cross is cleared as City finally get hold of the ball. Steve Phillips does well to hold onto a shot from Keith Southern as Scott Taylor closes in. Leroy Lita who hasn't scored for a while now, has a shot at the other end.

The first corner goes to Blackpool but Tony Butler clears well. At the other end a tame shot from Lita is easily saved. Matty Hill covers back well to tackle Scott Taylor as he looks to sprint clear in the box. Corner conceded. Hull take the lead at Colchester. Jamie Smith is warned for a tough tackle on Burns.

Phillips makes a very good save from a Scott Taylor header from 3yards after careless work by Tony Butler. City win a free kick 25 yards out and Luke Wilkshire scores!!!! A very loud cheer from City fans - sounds like a lot at Bloomfield Road.

0-1 (Luke Wilkshire 21 mins)

Sheffield Wednesday are ahead against Brentford, meaning City currently are in 4th place. Steve Brooker is booked for dissent following a foul by Tommy Doherty. A Blackpool player goes down under challenge in the box and the ref gives a corner. Leroy Lita breaks and is tripped on the very edge of the box and Gareth Evans is booked. The free kick is blocked. Steve Brooker heads wide from 10 yards.

Doncaster Rovers have taken the lead at Swindon, who appear to be concentrating on the LDV Trophy. Lita is put through but is well tackled and then has an effort from 6 yards cleared off the line.

Blackpool get a penalty as Jamie Smith brings down Peter Clarke in stoppage time. Scott Taylor scores.

1-1 (Scott Taylor pen. 45mins)

Tommy Doherty gets booked for dissent and City go into half time all square. City have controlled most of the game after a dodgy start by a debated penalty.

HALF TIME 1-1

City begin and Clarke just manages to clear an early City cross. Scott Taylor is caught offside. Paul Heffernan has come on in place of Steve Brooker. Lita has a shot just wide. City have switched to 3-4-3 with Wilkshire joining Lita and Heffernan up front. Brad Jones makes a good double save from Scott Murray and Paul Heffernan. City are looking in control, but Blackpool break and have a shot blocked away for a corner which comes to nothing.

Jamie Smith gets booked for a foul. Mark McGregor body checks Scott Murray but escapes a booking Mickey Bell hits the free kick over the bar. Tommy Doherty will be lucky to survive the match, constantly talking back to the ref, opposition and his own players and manager. A Blackpool free kick from 30 yards causes City a few problems but they manage to hack the ball clear.

Luton have taken the lead against Port Vale and Brentford have equalised at Hillsborough. As things stand we will stay in 6th place. A goal would put us 4th. Lita puts the ball in the net but is offside. Brentford take the lead and City are down to 8th because Bradford have equalised against Walsall.

Simon Grayson is replaced by Danny Coid for Blackpool. Clayton Fortune is on for Matty Hill. Luke Wilkshire goes down in the box and wins a penalty in the last minute of the game. Danny Coid is booked for dissent. Mickey Bell takes it and its blasted over the bar. A fight breaks out and Peter Clarke and Leroy Lita are booked.

The final whistle goes as City have blown their chance to win the match.
