Carey believes that the £2.25million capture of Nicky Maynard proves that City have ambition to reach the Premiership this season and smashing their transfer record to recruit a highly-rated striker demonstrates the clubs intention to challenge for promotion again.
He told the Western Daily Press: "Paying that kind of money shows we mean business. We intend to be fighting at the top of the table as we did in 2007/08."
