FA Youth Cup 4th Round: Bristol City 2 Leeds Utd 1

Last updated : 16 January 2008 By Ciderjar
Bristol City took the lead in the 56th minute; Aussie youngster Robert Stambolsiev nodding in a free kick from a yard out. They appeared in control with Edwards in the Leeds goal forced into several good saves, however, a scrambled equaliser in the 78th minute put the tie back in the balance but up popped Stambolsiev in injury time to score the winner from the edge of the penalty area. If the scores had been level after 90 minutes there would have been 30 minutes of extra time, followed by the dreaded penalties. Instead City face either Manchester City or Reading in the 5th round.

Injury scares to first team prospects Christian Ribeiro and Tristan Plummer were all that marred a bright performance by the City Youth Team although both made it through the full 90 minutes.

The match was watched by around 2,000 fans at Ashton Gate
which included several first team regulars (no doubt worried about losing their places!).

Robert Stambolsiev has already scored 6 goals in just 12 starts for the Youth team. He is a first year Academy Scholar and has represented his national youth side.
