"I have been a coach at City before but I didn't feel it was the right thing for me to do to return at this time," he told the Wolves official website.
"Glenn said that he wanted me to stay, which had a bearing on my decision making, and I informed City of my intentions on Monday.
"Taking all things into consideration it didn't seem to be the best thing for my career at this time."
